PORTELET BAY CAFE

Portelet Bay Cafe is a family run cafe located right on the beach at Portelet Bay in Jersey, Channel Islands. The bay is set between the conservation areas of Noirmont and Portelet Common and is outstandingly beautiful.
The cafe specialises in authentic pizza as well as seasonal fresh shell fish during high season and salads always using locally sourced produce wherever possible. We also provide simple offerings at breakfast time such as homemade granola and Jersey Yogurt, as well as breakfast cakes. Our philosophy is to provide the highest quality and the freshest food possible, therefore we have a small menu which changes often to reflect this. All our puddings and cakes are homemade.
Access to the cafe is either by steps down to the bay or boat. You can not drive to the cafe, but we believe this makes it all the more special and this unique location, far from traffic and roads, offers the perfect place to sit and relax. We are pioneers of green and sustainable travel and promote the bus service (12A) as well as EVie bikes , boat travel, paddle boarding, kayaking and of course, walking. The atmosphere is extremely warm, relaxed and welcoming, and we also love the company of small, well behaved dogs on leads!
Since we purchased the site in 2014, we have been uncovering the gardens above the cafe which historically were a quarry and then part of the Jersey Holiday Village. We have uncovered the original steps and walkways throughout the gardens and reinstated cotils and dry granite borders for plants, herbs and vegetables for the restaurant. We have been told we have created a ‘reptiles paradise’ and we couldn’t be more proud .
We have indoor and outdoor seating. We have a small but decent selection of wine and beer. Booking is essential during the summer season.

Good to know
| ALLERGY ADVICE We always try to cater for customers who wish not to eat gluten and dairy however our kitchen is small and all food is prepared in the same area therefore we can not guarantee that food has not been contaminated with these products. We also use a variety of nuts, seeds, soy, and other allergens in our kitchen. We offer gluten free bases but must stress they are prepared and cooked in the same oven. We therefore accept no liability in this regard. |
| SERVICE CHARGE A 10% discretionary service charge is added to all tables. |
| CAKES: We do not accept bring your own Birthday Cakes but will always make a cake with 48 hours prior notice. Please contact us in good time so that we can work with you to create the perfect cake for your special day. We can also make gluten free or vegan cakes with prior notice. We appreciate your co operation and understanding. |
| TAKE AWAY - We do not take pre orders for take away as seated and booked customers always take priority over take aways. If you would like to order a take away, including drinks and ice cream, please go to the kiosk at the rear of the restaurant and up the back steps (NOT THE MAIN TERRACE PLEASE) where you can place your order. Please stay in the near vicinity of the kiosk whilst waiting for your order. We can not take any responsibility for food that is not collected when ready. The kitchen will make your take away once they have prioritised all seated diners. If you require a specific time to eat then we advise booking a table to enjoy your meal. During extremely busy times we may have to stop take away service. Thank you for your understanding. |
BUS ROUTE NUMBER 12A
It has always been, and continues to be, our aim to reduce the carbon footprint of our business on the environment, and to reduce dependence on the car.
In May 2019 the States of Jersey declared a climate emergency and agreed the aim to be carbon neutral by 2030. Over 50% of Jersey’s greenhouse gas emissions come from transport. Road transport alone counts for 32% ( quote from gov.je )
There is no vehicular access to Portelet Bay Café. This has always been our USP. We are pioneers of the Islands sustainable transport policy. We encourage the use of, and promote the health and wellbeing benefits, of utilising more sustainable means of transport.
There are bus routes that come to Noirmont as well as La Route de la Noirmont. Bus routes 12, 14 and 15 run daily and regularly. The 14 and 15 stop at Woodbine corner which is a flat walk, and takes approximately 15 minutes.
There are 2 large public car parks; one at Noirmont and one at Ouaisne which provide a 15 minute walk across the headland to Portelet. There is also some public parking available at Portelet Common which then provides a lovely walk back towards the bay.
Come by boat! We work with Jersey Seafaris, Island rib, Absolute adventures, Go-sail, Nauti buoy and Le Mourier. As well as this we welcome private boat travel, sailing, kayak and paddle boarding.
Should customers choose to arrive by, or be collected by taxi, we recommend the meeting point to be the 12A bus stop , or the top of the steps that lead from Rue Voisin. No access is possible through the Portelet Bay Apartment gates at any time.

At Portelet Bay Cafe we advise advanced booking on the weekends and during high season as we get extremely busy. If you are interested in booking a table please do this online through Res Diary. For bookings over 12 people or for special requirements please email us below and we will endeavour to get back to you within 48 hours . Major credit cards accepted. (regretfully excluding American Express)
Parties / Events
It would be extremely disappointing to venture down the steps to the beach, only to find us closed for a private function, and therefore we do not offer private hire of the cafe. The maximum number we cater for is 30.
Bookings of up to 12 can be reserved online through Resdiary . Please contact us through our bookings email to discuss your requirements if your table is for over 12 persons.
Children's parties
Children's Birthday parties ( maximum 24) are limited to between 3.30pm and 5pm . Please contact us to discuss your requirements and allow 48 hours notice if you would like a cake. We do not accept bring your own cakes and Thank you for your understanding .

COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT
We make every effort to reduce packaging and plastics and therefore do not sell plastic bottles of water or ice creams in wrappers. All of our ice-cream is Jersey Dairy and served in a cone or in a bowl. We grow our own herbs and edible flowers in the gardens above the cafe, and re-use packaging wherever possible before we recycle. We do not allow balloons or plastic sprinkles on the terrace or in the restaurant. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
